Move in Magic

 

Participation: 29 Student Organizations, and approximately 185 participants

Location: Eastern Michigan University Residents Halls

This year Eastern Michigan University recorded its largest incoming class in the history Eastern Michigan University with a final  2,872. Every year student organizations participate in Move in Magic where they assist new students moving into their residence halls. Each organization has the opportunity to sign up through the Residence Life office to participate in the event, and the organizations receive $20.00 per member that helps. 

This tends to be a very popular event for organizations to gain funding for their organizations budget for the academic year. Campus Life partners with Residence Life to host and work with the student organizations. A training session is held the morning of and instructs students tips to help, and provoke conversation. 

SOLAR Session 3

The VISION volunteer center approached the Student Program Coordinator for Student Organizations about hosting a SOLAR session. The topic of this session was titled, "How to Fulfill Your Organizations Purpose Through Service." 

This program started with defining service, and then moved into how doing service benefits the organization in many different ways, including networking and recruiting.

Alumni Advisor Luncheon

Participation: 11 alumni advisors, 3 council members from IFC, NPHC, and CPC, 3 staff members

This year, Campus Life hosted the first Alumni Advisor Luncheon. This event was created in an effort to bring chapter advisors together to share ideas and voice concerns they have surrounding the Greek community. The luncheon informed advisors on events taking place throughout the course of the year, the status of their respective chapters and ways in which they could help advance the community. 

Week 8: Leadership in Action

Ellen Collier was the guest facilitator for today's session. With the things that she talked about, she allowed the students a chance to really think about  their futures and where they see themselves which they were able to write/draw out. Picture frames were given to the students to put their visions in to keep and continuously look at and be reminded of where they want to be in their future as a motivation to get there. She provided a handout where the students were able to think about and recognize their passions and inspirations with the chance to share them with their peers.

The night closed with a reflection of their experiences in ELS, things that they had learned about themselves, and where they see themselves in the future.

The Post-Test Assessment and weekly evaluation was administered at the end of the night.
